Whale Watching

NOTE: Created a Watch Page for tracking my weight.

The goal is for me to drop my weight down to 230-250 pounds. I will post my daily weight
(DW) and trend weight (TW) here. You then can monitor my progress and call me when my "trend" weight begins to move in the wrong direction.

The key is to watch "trend" and not "daily" weight.

NOTE: Trend weight shows how my weight is progressing over time. It's a semi-complicated formula I came across a number of years ago. That I weigh more today than yesterday does not matter, as long as it is still below the trend weight.

Let the counting begin!

Date. . . . . . . . . . . Daily Wt . Trend Wt
Monday, April 6, 2009 . . .378.8 . . .380.0
Sunday, April 5, 2009. . . 379.8. . . 380.2

Saturday, April 4, 2009 . .378.2 . . .380.2

It might help to track what you eat and your exercise. A site where you can do that for free is www.dailyplate.com

It really helps to ensure you don't supersize your portions when you have to measure or at least guesstimate the portions you eat.

Best of luck with this project. I have been dealing with these issues since forever, and I am getting gastric bypass later this year do hopefullylose the excess. it's never easy, even with surgery.

Good luck with your surgery.

Yes. It isn't just about leaving off from the pop and snacks. It's also about portion sizes.

I remember a comedy show from the 60s in which they were poking fun at dieting. An extremely large man came out and talked up the benefit of Weight Watcher pizza.

"They're wonderful! I had six of them for lunch."

In the 60s I was thin and healthy, and that was funny. Now I'm fat and sickly and it isn't so funny anymore.

I just read your other post and that's great that you don't need medication! Will power, while a challenge, is at least cheap!

And I think it's an excellent idea to blog about your quest to get healthier. I am sure it will help.

Seriously consider adding lentils to your diet. They are cheap and a great food for blood sugar issues-they are so slowly taken up that the insulin response is very low.

(Also are you sure your dr meant 10,000 steps PLUS an hour on the treadmill? 10,000 steps is five miles, and hour on the treadmill could be another 3 or 4 and that seems like an excessive goal. I think the general rec. is just the 10,000. Maybe double check so you don't push yourself too hard.)

You can do it!

We've got to go grocery shopping soon. Are lentils something we should be able to find at one of those warehouse groceries?

I asked him three times about the 10,000-steps. He was adamant that those are to be taken beyond the treadmill walking.

My understanding is that it is an "ultimate goal", like the walking an hour on the treadmill.

With my stride, 10,000-steps is closer to six miles.

If I continue to lose weight at the rate of three pounds each week I don't think it will matter if I walk a little less.

Do you mean like Costco? Ours doesn't have them. But all of our regular groceries do, although they are even cheaper and come in bigger packages and in lots of varieties at Indian grocers if you have one around.

If you get ahold of some and want a recipe just let me know.

They may have lentil soup at the warehouse, but sometimes those are high in sodium.

We have Cub Foods. They have a large produce section. That's where we get "fresh" mushrooms, carrots, apples, oranges, and grapes, and other things like that.

Yes. Give me a recipe. I don't believe I've ever had lentils, so I wouldn't know how to cook them.

Thanks

lol. i don't hate, i just don't get it. i'm a keep it in kind of person :-)

I made a few superhero characters with one of the links on the page and developed them into characters aren't exactly superheroes anymore... so i'm not sure it fits the writing rules of the blog. But i'll definately lurk and post random comments and stuff

Kathleen: Welcome!

Not all superheroes are like Superman, or even Batman. The Vigilante had no powers or gadgets. Neither did Rorshack. In fact, Rorshack pretty much went after petty criminals.

Would you like an invite so you can post stories?

I make a low-fat lentil soup a lot.
There is a recipe on the bag that gives you the basics. I buy low-fat smoked sausage (or you can use regular sausage and bake it on paper towels to remove excess fat) then peel and dice it and add to soup. The secret to giving it good flavor is Ham Flavoring that's sold in the section of Cub where they sell institutional-size stuff.
It comes in a white jar and works great for flavoring all kinds of soups. Hope you can find it!

Thank J!

I'll give it a go.
